چکیده

We present a novel Bayesian method for pattern recognition in images affected by unknown optical degradations and additive noise. The method is based on a multiscale/multiorientation subband decomposition of both the matched filter (original object) and the degraded images. Using this image representation within the Bayesian framework, it is possible to make a coarse estimation of the unknown Optical Transfer Function, which strongly simplifies the Bayesian estimation of the original pattern that most probably generated the observed image. The method has been implemented and compared to other previous methods through a realistic simulation. The images are degraded by different levels of both random (atmospheric turbulence) and deterministic (defocus) optical aberrations, as well as additive white Gaussian noise. The Bayesian method showed to be highly robust to both optical blur and noise, providing rates of correct responses significantly better than previous methods. Iris recognition in non-ideal imaging conditions

This paper studies the iris recognition problem in the degraded iris images captured in non-ideal imaging conditions. In these circumstances iris recognition becomes challenging because of noisy factors such as the off-axis imaging, pose variation, image blurring, illumination change, occlusion, specular highlights and noise. We introduce a robust algorithm based on the Random Sample Consensus ...

A Bayesian Approach for the Recognition of Control Chart Patterns

In this research, an iterative approach is employed to recognize and classify control chart patterns. To do this, by taking new observations on the quality characteristic under consideration, the Maximum Likelihood Estimator of pattern parameters is first obtained and then the probability of each pattern is determined. Then using Bayes’ rule, probabilities are updated recursively. Finally, when...

Object Structure from Noisy Images

We describe the establishment of a compound object model for object recognition purposes which provides the frame for the extraction of object structure from images degraded by noise. Our vision system is inspired by cognitive principles. From a set of sample views we automatically generate a sparse and view-based object representation, which contains enough information to represent the object ...

A hybrid parallel projection approach to object-based image restoration

Approaches analyzing local characteristics of an image prevail in image restoration. However, they are less effective in cases of restoring images degraded by large size point spread functions (PSFs) and heavy noise. The recently proposed learning based approaches perform well on recovering details from images degraded by large size PSFs, yet involves complicated implementation process and high...
